Understand the Micsig Rogowski AC Current Probe RCP series in One Article

Updated:2025-06-27

Micsig RCP Series Rogowski Current Probe (Rogowski Coil) supports customizable configurations to meet user-specific requirements. It measures AC currents up to 12000Apk, max. bandwidth up to 30 MHz, withstand voltage is up to 10kVrms. With a minimum coil cross-section of just 1.6mm, it can easily pass through the pin leg of TO-220 and other plug-in semiconductor devices. With a typical accuracy up to 2%, it accurately measures high-frequency and high-current signals, making it ideal for double-pulse dynamic testing of third-generation semiconductors and monitoring of semiconductor switching current waveforms.

2. Product Advantages

2.1  Measuring MOSFET Id Current

The RCP has excellent high-frequency measurement capabilities, easily handles high-speed signals and rapidly changing current waveforms. It helps observe high-frequency harmonic components (as shown the oscillation section) when measuring MOSFET Id current.

2.2  Capability for Large Current Measurement with Reliable Accuracy

Peak Current: Multi-range selection from 60Apk to 12000Apk (e.g., RCP60XS supports 60Apk, RCP12000XS supports 12000Apk), meeting current testing needs from small inductors to 3-phase supply systems.

Measurement Accuracy: Typical Accuracy of 2%, noise <5mVpp (e.g., RCP1200XS), and conductor position influence controlled within ±1%, ensuring stable and reliable data.

2.3  1.6mm Ultra-Flexible Coil for Complex Scenarios

Coil Design: The cross-sectional diameter of the coil is only 1.6mm, allow engineers measure current in most difficult-to-reach parts of the circuit, such as narrow pin spacing chip like TO-220, TO-47, overcoming the access limitations of traditional rigid probes.

Flexibility: The coil is made of flexible material, supporting customization of inner diameter (standard 25mm), circumference (standard 80mm), and cable length (standard 1.5m) to adapt to special-shaped cable or dense circuit layouts.

2.4  Low Load Interference, True Signal Reproduction

Insertion Impedance: Almost zero, causing minimal impact on the measured circuit, especially suitable for current monitoring of low-power devices or precision power supplies, avoiding deviations introduced by impedance matching issues in traditional probes.

3.  Customization Support

Micsig RCP series Rogowski coils support flexible customization services, allowing adjustment of multiple physical parameters and functional configurations according to customers' actual testing needs to solve measurement challenges in special scenarios.

3.1  Customization of Inner Diameter and Circumference

The standard Rogowski coil has an inner diameter of 25mm and a circumference of 80mm, capable of measuring cables with a diameter ≤20mm. Customization of inner diameter, circumference, and cross-section diameter is supported for special layouts.

3.2  Customization of Cable Length

The standard cable length is 1.5m, which can be extended as needed for testing distance, meeting the current monitoring needs of remote equipment (such as distribution cabinets and outdoor motors) while maintaining signal transmission stability.

4.  Practical Applications

Micsig RCP series flexible current probes (Rogowski coils) are widely applicable to current measurement scenarios in multiple fields:

Power Electronics and Industrial Equipment: Accurately measure motor drive current and power quality of variable speed drives (VSD), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), etc., supporting monitoring of alternating current in 3-phase power supply systems, 50/60Hz power frequency current, and high-frequency sine waves, pulses, or transient currents.

Third-Generation Semiconductor R&D: Capable of directly measuring terminal currents in SiC/GaN-based MOSFET and IGBT chips, supporting double-pulse testing and semiconductor power loss analysis.

Electronic Components and Complex Circuits: Suitable for current monitoring of small inductors, capacitors, and vibration damping circuits, supporting measurement of load current and high-order harmonic current in power electronic equipment.

Power Supply and Converter Development: Performs excellently in power converter development and diagnosis, providing key current data support for performance optimization of high-frequency switched-mode power supplies, inverters, and other equipment.

With the core advantages of "wide-bandwidth, flexible, and precision", Micsig RCP series flexible current probes provide efficient and reliable current measurement solutions for semiconductor R&D, power electronics testing, and industrial automation fields.
