What is the “waveform refresh rate” of an oscilloscope?

Waveform capture rate indicates how many times per second the oscilloscope can capture and display waveforms. Think of an oscilloscope as a video camera that takes snapshots of waveforms. Waveforms are continuous and constantly evolving, whereas a camera captures only discrete images—snapshots taken at specific moments. Even if the instrument can capture one million samples per second, there will still be gaps between successive captures, causing some waveform details to be missed. To observe waveforms that more closely resemble their true shape, we need to increase the number of captures within each second, thereby improving the chances of detecting rare signals with extremely low probabilities.
